There
are two dancers of the week this week. Both Charles
Askegard and Monique Meunier were promoted
to the rank of Principal at the New York City Ballet, and congratulations
seemed in order. We learned of this on Dancer Day, and didn't
have photos on hand, but you can find one of Meunier,
along with a biography, at New York Ciity Ballet's web site.
(Charles Askegard just joined the company from ABT, and although
his name is listed, the information hasn't been filled in yet.)
Brief bios from the company's press
release are:
Charles Askegard, 29, was born
in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mr. Askegard joined American Ballet
Theatre in 1987 and was promoted to Soloist in 1992. He left
ABT to join New York City Ballet as a Soloist in 1997.
Monique Meunier, 25, was born in
Los Angeles, California. In 1998, Ms. Meunier entered the School
of American Ballet (SAB), the official School of New York City
Ballet, and was invited to join the Company as a member of the
corps de ballet in 1990. She was promoted to the rank of
Soloist in 1997.
