This week's Dancer of the Week is California Ballet's Denise Dabrowski, shown here with partner Mark Lanham in the California Ballet's production of The Nutcracker.

We chose this photo (by Mark Butler) out of several we've received from regional companies around America because we liked the dancers' spirit. Denise Dabrowski is the prima ballerina of San Diego's California Ballet and dances leading roles in the classics as well as general repertory. The California Ballet, a mix of students and professionals, is representative of the kind of American company most of us grow up with, and although we celebrate Denise for her dancing in itself, we're also celebrating all the Sugar Plum Fairies of America. Unfortunately, the California Ballet Company is one of the few in America who aren't on the web, so we can't send you over to read more.
