LISTEN TO SLEEPING BEAUTY

The Sleeping Beauty (complete ballet, 1889-90), Op. 66

Anthony Bernard, Westminster Symphony Orch.
2 CDs Masterpiece MK 1816

Antal Dorati, Amsterdam Royal Concertgebouw Orch.
2CDs Phillips "Duo" 446166-2
Far better than his old Minneapolis recording, but as with most, contains no performance cuts.

Valery Gergiev, Kirov Orch.
Phillips 434922-2
More in the nature of the "rediscovered" symphonist school, of interest for excellent musicianship, but contains every note in the uncut score.

Andrew Mogrelia, Czech Philharmonic Orch.
3 CDs Naxos 8.450890/92

Vladimir Ponkin, Moscow New Philharmonic Orch.
3 CDs MKA 417117

André Previn, London Symphony Orch.
2 CDs EMI Classics CDQB 54814
2 Cassettes 4D2Q 54814

George Weldon, Philharmonia Orch.
Classics for Pleasure CDCFP 4458

Unfortunately, I have not found a single recording of the complete ballet which is not "over-complete", i.e. contains every note Tchaikovsky wrote. This state of affairs is rather sad, for there used to be at least two or three on the market which contained the performance cuts, and the ballet is never
performed without them--even in Tchaikovsky's day!
